High Blood Pressure

High blood pressure or hypertension is a common disease of modern age. The fast pace urban life and increasing mental and physical pressures are the chief causes of high blood pressure. Different actions may increase or decrease blood pressure. For example, if you run, your blood pressure goes up. When you sleep at night, your blood pressure goes down. These changes in blood pressure are common. However, some people have blood pressure that stays up most of the time. If untreated, it can lead to serious medical problems.
Symptoms:
  • Rise in systolic/diastolic blood pressure from the normal 120/80.
  • Headache, loss of sleep.
  • Palpitations and flushed face.

Pestle garlic cloves in the mortar to make a fine paste. Take 4 gms of this paste with butter milk, three times daily. Since garlic contains 'adenosine'- the smooth muscle relaxant, it lowers the blood pressure. It relaxes the smooth muscles of the blood vessels, thus allowing them to dilate.

  • Foods having a high salt content further increase blood pressure. Thus, restrict the intake of salt to as little as 3 grams a day. This is both safe and adequate for adults.
  • Be physically active. Swimming, cycling and house hold chores are the activities which can keep you away from blood pressure problems.
  • Maintain a healthy weight and an active life style.
  • Avoid alcohol, smoking and mental stress.
Other Remedies
High Blood Pressure
  • A few drops of almond oil along with milk soothe the nerves and help to keep down the blood pressure.
  • A sweet jelly (Murrabba) of amla, apple and carrots is very effective in controlling hypertension.
  • Take 100 ml of fresh juice of oranges twice daily.
  • Asparagus is very beneficial to combat high blood pressure. Take it either in powder form or the juice of it, twice daily.
