Kidney Stones

The formation of kidney stones in kidney or urinary tract is a common disorder. People whose diet is rich in animal protein and low in fiber or fluids are at higher risk of developing kidney stones. People between the age of 20 to 40 years are more likely to develop the condition, as are those with persistent heartburn and take antacid for long period. About 90% of all stones contain calcium as the chief constituent compounded with oxalate.

  • Pain while passing urine.
  • Frequent desire to urinate.
  • Scanty urination.
  • Nausea
  • Blood passes with urine.

Prepare a decoction by boiling one part of the bark of henna plant in 20 parts of water until it boils down to a quarter of its original quantity. Take 25 ml of this decoction thrice a day, at least for 3 months, for removing the stones.

  • Drink plenty of water and other liquids.
  • Eat less meat, fish and poultry.
  • Avoid a sedentary lifestyle by indulging moderate physical activity.
  • Minimize the intake of apples, tomatoes, cabbage, cheese, figs and curd.
  • Avoid food which is rich in Vitamin C.
Other Remedies
Kidney Stones
  • Take 1 tsp of the powdered seeds of gokhshur (Gokhru) with water.
  • Extract the juice of raw karela (Bitter gourd) and take it 30 ml once a day.
  • Make a decoction of kulthi (Horse gram) seeds and take 30 ml twice a day.
  • Basil (Tulsi) is an effective medicine for kidney stones. One tsp of basil juice and honey can be taken daily for few months. This helps expel the stones from the urinary tract.
  • A tablespoon of pomegranate seeds, ground into a fine paste, can be taken daily for dissolving the stones in kidney.
